Universal celebration, the main character… the Malbec

30.MAR.11, 12:51 Next April 17th, we will celebrate the first Malbec World Day by initiative of Wine of Argentina. The vine-stock emblem of our soil will be the star and like that will be promoted internationally. Three key cities will be hostesses of this important meeting: New York, London and Toronto.

Even though the Malbec is not original from Argentina, the vine-stock is cultivated in each region of our national territory and nowadays, we are the biggest world producer of Malbec. Like gratefulness, Wines of Argentina will distinguish to his vine-stock emblem across the creation of the Malbec World Day.

Tributes around the globe
In The United States, Gary Vaynerchuck -celebrity in Internet and modal of the industry- will interview the president of Wines of Argentina for his radial program, beside tasting Argentine wines and being a host of an exclusive show in the Public Library of New York.

The Tribeca Film Festival will be realized in New York and the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington. There will be lunches and presentations in Napa Valley, promotions in restaurants of Toronto and Ottawa in the frame of the Week of the Malbec in Canada and activities with the principal retailers, Majestic Wines and Direct Wines, across direct sale and promotion online from London. These are, between others, the activities to realize as part of the Malbec World Day.

Prophet in house
In Argentina, the event will be realized in Mendoza, because it is the principal zone of production of Argentinian Malbec. Wines of Argentina will organize an exotic toast in hot air ballons, there will be one hundred and fifty guests in Tupungato Winelands, summoning distinguished representatives of the principal wineries and to the local, national and international media.

Key day
For to the history and development of this vine-stock emblem of Argentina the April 17th, date chosen to celebrate the Malbec World Day, is a key day. This original grape of France, more precisely of Bordeaux, Southwest of the Gallic country, arrived at our soil, to our culture and it turned into a part of our roots by the hand of Michel Aimé Pouget, an agronomist contracted to direct the "Agronomic Villa of Mendoza" by Domingo Faustino Sarmiento.
For them, April 17th meant a hinge in the wine national industry, in that date of 1853 they presented, to the provincial Legislature, a project that consisted in the incorporation of new vine-stocks (including the Malbec) to stimulate the economy. Once that project was approved, Pouget arrived in Mendoza to begin the mentioned project. This way, the wine history starts to be planned in Mendoza, this way this vine-stock joined to our culture and essence. This is another reason to explain that Mendoza is the national seat of this event.
