Tasting of wines without limits

31.MAR.11, 12:10 By Jorge Cabrera
Surely, the more exciting tasting of wines was the done on Tuesday, March 22th in full range of The Andes, in the zone of the international pass "Agua Negra", which joins to the province of San Juan with Coquimbo's Chilean region. There, the height reaches 4870 meters from the level of the sea, with everything that it implies for adventurers tasters. Now, we'll relate you how our activity developed, that by routs of the wine, he promotes this border crossing.

Chronicle of an extreme tasting

Our experience began on Monday, in the department of "Iglesias", placed 200 km to the north of the city of San Juan, in Pismanta's traditional thermal hotel. After the lunch, the offer was cross the zone towards the dike "Cuesta del Viento", where it is observed the low level of water that concerns the whole zone of the range.

The mentioned dike is particularly attractive for the lovers of windsurfing thanks to the intense and constant wind; it is visited by national and foreign sportsmen. Near of there, there is the town of Rodeo, called this way because, in the past, it was the point where the livestock grazed before going to Chile. It still preserves the dividing, done of mud, which was used as corrals.

Finally, the tour we were again ready for a night of flavors. We tasted typical regional foods: Argentinian cooked by the flames and Chileans seafood accompanied by original wines of San Juan and of Limarí's Valley, which possess intense color and elegant aromas. Some of the varieties presented by San Juan were Torrontés Riojano, Chardonnay, Malbec and Syrah whereas Chile presented vine-stocks as Pedro Jiménez, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and Syrah. The Regional Director of Tourism of Coquimbo, Adriana Peñafiel Villafañe commented that "this experience, so recent, make the tourist ties between both regions stronger, where the wineries of Chile accompanied us gladly for this tasting that promotes the approximation between the above mentioned zones and that is, definitively, our principal interest ". The above mentioned interest was shared by the Secretary of Tourism of San Juan, Ubaldo Hidalgo, who expressed that "this is his first bi-national tasting and this is one of the superlative values, which, surely, will reply joining the routes of the wine of San Juan ".

A High Degustation

Organized by the Department of Tourism and Culture with the Production and Economic Development Department of San Juan, on Tuesday, March 22nd, began the day of the "First Highest Tasting of the World".

Very early, with the perfect Sun, we began to cross the way of mountain, typical of this part of the range. While we were ascending across the immensity of the landscape and the eternal snow, the vegetation was gradually disappearing. When we arrived to the limit with Chile, everything was prepared to begin the tasting and to perceive as little as possible the impact of the height in the organism and this way to enjoy the wine and an impressive landscape. Quickly, eighty guests (we can mention government representatives of both countries, provincial, national journalists and representatives of the wine sector) taste twelve wines; four of them were Chilean and eight, Argentinians under the direction of sommeliers and enologists of both countries.

Without doubts, a challenging experience to promote the international pass "Agua Negra", as tourist border crossing between Argentina and Chile and to seal by routs of the wine the ties of these two regions, as if the limit do not exist.
