Our hostess Viviana Yancarelli welcomes us as we arrived to the winery, and introduces us to Anabell Ortiz, who is responsible of tourism, to begin the visit that involves an approaching to the vineyard where everything related to the vine is explained, then we walk inside the winery facilities, where we know the wine style that the winemaker Juliana López Cavagnaro and Ramón Chavero, in charge of the Winery want to develop. After the tour, for the tasting we where joined by the Exports Manager Juan Pablo Rodríguez Reta, who told us about the strong presence in Brazil, including wines and olive oil, and about the origin of the vision of development for the first wine we tasted: Malbec Rosé 2009 V.V.V. (Vicente Vargas Videla) which started being exported to countries with high consumption of beer, so they looked for a wine style according to their palate and achieved a nice coloured, fresh, fruity wine in the nose and the mouth as well, good acidity and long finish. We continued with the Tierras Altas Malbec 2008, intense colour, fruity and lively, smooth but mouthfilling, very attractive and fresh at the finish.
Finally, Tierras Altas Malbec Reserva 2006, great concentration and brightness, mature red fruits, vegetal and spicy with a tasty palate, good structure and a long finish with hints of dark chocolate.
Wines of a real well done style, representing the mendocinian Malbec expression, the one that Juliana loves where the fruit and the terroir are the stars, and the oak is used only as a complement.
As an “extra”, Tierras Altas winery includes, besides the tour and wine tasting, olive oil tasting, industry that they have been involved for over 30 years, producing the brands Vistalba, Interlagos and Casillero Privado. All the products are available at the end of the tour, at reasonable prices according with the market and quality.
Before saying goodbye, Viviana showed us her enterprising spirit, through “Olivas y Cepas” project (www.olivasycepas.com.ar), a body cosmetic portfolio of products based on natural extracts of vine and olives.
As a conclusion, Tierras Altas is a good suggestion for those who want to enjoy wines, olive oil and a warm reception by their staff.
Note: Previous reservation for lunch is required. The tour with tasting has no cost and lasts one hour.
