Passion combined with sacrificed work and freedom to create are the pillars of wine style, "style?, That's what we consult and Roberto told us that he considers himself a modernist," .... To make wine is like painting ... is art ", so the color in Nieto wines is the main feature, concentration and hues reflect an image of style and give your position.
How do you involve the consumer when choosing the product offering?
We work hard with the marketing department of the company that has an important structure that generates a feed back to us essential to delineate the path from the winemaking aspect, which obviously starts in the vineyard. Today we must be "sociologists" to interpret what the consumer looks for at each of the segments.
What does Bonarda mean to you and what about its projection?
Thomas H.tells us the differential that this strain acquires from work in the vineyard and the grape characteristics achieved in the area of Agrelo, Lujan de Cuyo, highlighting this as very different from the renowned Mendoza East Zone, as associated with this grape. On the future of Bonarda, Roberto added: "I continue to study, but we are convinced of its potential as demonstrated in other mature markets such as England," Roberto added “…to our Bonarda reserve we leave it no more than a year in oak barrels in order not to "stress it" and achieve a product of excellent concentration of intense red color, fresh and minty nose, showing the tipicity of Agrelo and smoky and roasted notes, mouth full of character, harmonious and complex. This wine has an aging potential of 10 years.
Roberto, how do you see the argentine wine industry?
We understand that there are three major phases. Malbec consolidation today as a first step but we must think quickly in the second, which I understand is the operation of the terroir of Malbec and the inclusion of human resources in each wine to give greater prominence to the professional level of our country and the third is to develop a strong strategy in blends taking advantage of the continental style where 10-hour sunlight average provides good plant health and maturity.
What does the wine must reflect?
At this point Roberto is very clear in his answer:
50% terroir-40% human resources-10% I+D
Which news does Nieto have to tell to consumers?
Nieto Senetiner Pinot Noir y Benjamin Sweet Rosé. We´ll also have news in sparklings and Cadus in a few months…
To finish: best pairings
Roberto G. : Trout and White wine - Chardonnay or Torrontés.
Tomás H. : Pasta with beef stew like our grandmother´s paired with Bonarda.
t is very difficult to recommend just one wine of Bodega Nieto, subtle and delicious Bonarda, the exquisite and well-balanced line Cadus, fresh sparkling, Don Nicanor line and its tasty varietals, the smooth and kind Rosé with its aging in acacia wood.
Once again, to have the opportunity to come face to face with people so important in our industry, and listen to the knowledge transmitted is very rewarding and educational at the time to transmit.
Roberto and Tomás, two professionals and one team (almost 20 years working together), with clear language to explain the wines and the work they do together every day to get to achieve what the consumer will find in a glass of Nieto Senetiner wine.
