Kaiken Winery, located in Mendoza, Argentina, is the latest venture of the prestigious Chilean winemaker Aurelio Montes, who also owns Viña Montes (1986), Colchagua Valley, Chile and Montes USA (2006), Napa Valley, USA. It is situated in Vistalba, the heart of Luján de Cuyo Wine Area.
The winery is in an 80 year-old building, which used to belong to the Italian family: Calise. The total capacity of the winery is 6.000.000 liters of concrete tanks for fermenting and storing the wine. But the total production of Kaiken is about 1.800.000 liters. There are also 4 cellars to store 1500 French oak barrel and a charming tasting room and wine shop. During spring-summer, the gardens and barbecue area are enjoyable. The view of the Andes from there is unique and outstanding.
There are 17 hectares of vineyards in the estate of Vistalba that were already established, so there are many things to see as: 3 different training systems (American vs. French vs. Italian), different irrigation systems, new vines vs. old vines, among others. The company also owns 70 hectares in Agrelo and 150 hectares in Uco Valley. The most prestigious varietals are: Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Kaiken is a company with a strong comitment with the quality of its wines, that why there are few lines available in the market: Kaiken – Kaiken Corte – Kaiken Ultra and Kaiken Mai.
Guided tours in Spanish or English are private and reduced (no more than 12 people) Advanced booking recommended. Other non conventional activities, with 48 hours notice, as: asado (argentine barbecue) classes, wine painting classes, horseback riding through the vineyards, blending games, harvest tours, and private lunches; are offered. The tasting room is open from 10.00am to and previous appointment is not necessary for wine tastings.
